Dads and Diddy Bags and Birthdays
I got to spend some time with my Dad Saturday. I picked him up late morning and we headed to my Grandmothers (His Mom's) 100th Birthday Party. You heard me, right! 100. Can you imagine? My Grandmother is in better shape than I am, I swear. She's sharp and with it, baby. We had a really nice time and I got to see cousins that I just don't see often enough. It was wonderful. I shall share pics soon. Best part of the day (other than Grandma, of course) was the cake! Moist, white cake layered with rich raspberry filling. I helped myself to the piece with the most frosting. Oh, and the sandwiches that were served had all the crusts cut off!
I dropped Dad off at home about 5:00 and headed home. He lives in Eyota, a teeny, tiny "burb" of Rochester. You know, home of the Mayo Clinic. Anyway, as we were saying good bye, Dad handed me a small paper diddy bag stuffed with stuff. I could see there was a CD inside, some tupperware and a couple magazines. I grabbed the bag and off I went - hey, friends were in town and I needed to get home!! I finally had a chance to look thru the bag just this afternoon. Inside was Scott's birthday gift, a Gift Card to Gander Mountain (same gift every year, I love it), 2 empty, almost clean tupperware from Christmas, a DVD called Snap Decision with Mare Winningham. Never heard of it. There were 2 back issues of Birds & Blooms. I've never in my life known my dad to subscribe to a magazine! Hmmm, interesting. Lastly was a portion of the March 19, 2009 edition of the Rochester Newspaper. Well, I thought - what's in here? Something about Scrapbooking? A yummy looking recipe? I start paging thru it. Nothing grabbed me. So I went thru it again. And again. Real slow. What on earth did he give me this paper for? Here are the stories:
* A woman who sews new zippers on jackets. Um, ok.
* You have until Monday to vote on the new MN conservation license plate. Holy Crap I'm late! Oh wait. I don't live in MN.
* 27th Annual Agri News Farm Show. I don't think thats it.
* Obituaries. Nope, don't know anybody.
* Missing man found in West Virgina. David is in Virgina not west.
* Campaign to preserve school revenue. Can't be it.
* Study: Meth program is worth it. Dear me, I have had some skin issues lately but...
* Olmsted District Court. I scan the naughties. Nobody I know...
* This day in history...whoppty doo.
* Community Calendar....bla bla bla
* Pizza sales support museum. I like pizza, is that it?
* Golfers rejoice (I do need help with my drives...)
* The Charter Basic TV lineup. Nope
* The weather forecast and a huge ad to pay no interest until 2010.
What on earth does he want me to see? What am I missing???
I suppose I could call and ask him...but this is WAY more fun!
