American Idol Recap, Baby!
Jackie Tohn - first performance of the new season and she's doing Elvis' A Little Less Conversation. Her goal is to make Paula dance. Reach for the stars, hon. She starts...and its awful! Timid, off key - pretty wimpy. Bad. And those polka dots are making my face hurt. And the spandex! Should I have kept mine from 1984? Are they making a comeback? The tennis shoes? Jackie? Why?
Ricky Braddy - Tackling Leon Russell's A Song for You. Wow - this isn't predictable. There's something there...he's stumbly. Is that a word? I found myself talking to Scott while he sang and normally I demand SILENCE during Idol! PAULA SIT DOWN PLEASE.
Alexis Grace - Another big one in Aretha's Never Loved a Man. It was good but seems like there is a great performance just waiting to break out. It doesn't. She's awkward. I dig the pink highlights but could do without the red lipstick. Everybody loves it. Paula and her Star Bracelet love it. Simon really? The dark horse? Idunno. I need another week or two to join the club.
Brent Keith - Hick Town? Really? This is what you choose for you7r live debut? It was like an opening act - for an opening act.
Stevie - She chooses Taylor Swift's You Belong With Me, going after the teenie boppers. I gasp. I don't like it. It's uncomfortable to watch.
Anoop Desai - Interesting - Monica's Angel of Mine. I dig it, but its too slow and drags things down. Paula thinks "America has connected". Huh? On this first live show? Was she out doing street interviews? Not loving this performance but I hope he sticks around.
Casey Carlson - Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - but not tonight. WHAT are those clumsy robot-mannequin-frozen-serial-killer-smile-moves? It's like Sharpei from High School Musical.
Michael Sarver - Argh - Gavin DeGraw's I Don't Wanna Be. Originality, folks. He seems like he's trying to hard. Why is he gritting his teeth? And why doesn't he move from that one spot?
Ann Marie Boskovich - Natural Woman - tall order! She tries hard but she didn't quite cut the grey poupon.
Stephen Fowler - Um, did this guy get a makeover at all? Because that shirt looks Straight Up Now Tell Me from the bottom of the closet. His take on Michael Jackson's Rock With U just seems lazy and packs no punch. This guy WALKS OFF during Hollywood Week! He shouldn't even be there.
Tatiana Del Toro - Whitney Houston's SAving All My Love For You is the song. Crazy is the Singer. Like it or not, she was one of the better girl singers tonight. I still don't get her. I think I love her. But I hate her. I hope she makes the top 12. And I never want to see her again.
Danny Gokey - I HEART HIM! He's the Closer. He's the Lock. He's singing Mariah Carey's Hero. Crown this dude now. (I voted for him 7 times.) Danny is smart in that he sings songs by female singers making it harder to compare him with the original artist! Remember I Hope You Dance by Leanne Womack?! I still am a bit bummed his BFF Jamar didn't make it...
So, who makes it through tonight? Alexis and Gokey, with Anoop or a surprise? Comment Away!
